| I’m certainly not new to the author’s works, as I’ve read several over the last couple of years now. I was intrigued to see what he would end up doing with a science fiction fantasy rather than a more traditional pure or epic fantasy. This one originally hit my radar last year when I noticed some other friends in the community reading it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to squeeze it into my TBR list at the time. I got notified that book two was releasing soon with a possible eARC so I knew I had to get moving on this one. I almost immediately added Titan Hoppers to my Kindle Unlimited selections and made sure I got it read in April so I can get to Spire Climbers in May (released 4/25/23). I found myself really enjoying this one from the start. Which I know I’ve mentioned this before but I do find myself struggling with the younger protagonists. I didn’t really find myself in that situation this time. Maybe I’m just maturing in my own reading tastes or I’m just getting used to Rob’s writing style. Either way, this was one hell of a ride! The character building was definitely my favorite part of this read. We certainly have a lot of characters to get to know whether they are our younger trainees or sooner or later our older trainers and hoppers. I never really felt overwhelmed by the amount of characters. I thought they were introduced well enough to just flow as a group. As with most stories beginning with younger characters we have plenty of growth in book one. We have a great many types of characters to choose from. I can’t help but pull for Iro and eventually even for Emil. As different as they are, they both seem to ultimately be heading in the same directions as their desire for helping others. They are just taking different paths. The world building was right up there with the character building though. Seeing these fleets that drift through space looking for these titans to provide everything they need whether it is parts for ships or clothing and food was so interesting to me. Then how each ship has a different status or culture was intriguing as well. Finally, I can’t help but mention the action packed hops the crews make to the titans and the things we find on them. I don’t believe I’ve had much trouble with pacing while reading any of the author’s works so far. I only had a single hiccup with an audiobook listen due a chosen name of a character that just made things difficult for my silly brain to process. Which means that read is switching to a visual read once I’m caught up on the Titan Hoppers series. Rob certainly has a knack for getting his stories to flow and not letting off the gas too much. I’ve never really felt I was in a lull when reading his books so far. Things aren’t exactly none stop but those ebb and flow opportunities seem to stay higher rather than lower. I’d recommend Titan Hoppers for science fiction fantasy readers looking for something fun and exciting. Also for fans of Rob J. Hayes who are interested in seeing his works in a different genre.
